Resume Writing Tips

Manufacturing is a dynamic sector, and everyone wants a piece of it. If you are reading this, you probably want a piece of it too.

It should come as no surprise to you that your resume is important for a successful job hunt in the manufacturing sector. Your manufacturing resume should be on-point and impressive so that the recruiter is able to remember your resume.

It should be so meaningful that it has the potential to dazzle the recruiter into giving you the job on a silver platter.

Easier said than done, but with our expert manufacturing sector resume tips, you are bound to enhance the potential success of your job hunt:

1.    Use the perfect resume format to structure your resume:

Writing an impeccable manufacturing resume demands that each section of your resume is done to perfection. To accomplish this, your resume format needs to be impeccable as well.

There are 3 standard formats for writing resumes:

·         Reverse Chronological Resume Format: This resume format brings out the relevance of your resume by prioritizing your most recent work experience. In this format style, your most recent work experience comes first, followed by the next one, and so on. This resume format is considered ideal for most professionals across all industries and is usually preferred by recruiters.

·         Functional Resume Format: This resume format summarizes your skills without getting into explicit details regarding the timeline of your work experience. By focusing on your skills instead of the timeline of your professional experience, it hides potential gaps in your work experience. This resume format is thus considered ideal for those with large gaps in their work experience. But we generally don’t recommend this format as it’s not ATS-friendly and it seems fishy to recruiters.

·       Combination/Hybrid Resume Format: This resume format is a mix of both the resume formats that we have mentioned above. It gives equal weight to both your professional timeline and your skills.

While there is no one ideal resume format for job seekers, it has been universally and unanimously acknowledged that the reverse-chronological format is one that comes closest to perfection. This format also makes your resume more presentable and relevant.

This is the resume format that is most well-known among recruiters too.

This is why we advise you to follow this resume format for your manufacturing resume for a successful job hunt.

2.    Fill out all the relevant sections of your resume:

When it comes to writing a successful resume, it is vital that you fill out every section. Listed below are the sections that your manufacturing resume should include:

·         Header: Your resume header is your full name

·         Personal Information: Contact details like current location, professional email address & functional mobile number

·         Profile Title: Your current designation or last designation at your most recent organization

·         Summary/Objective: A brief overview of your professional experience in 2-3 lines

·         Key Skills: Your core areas of strength

·         Professional Experience: A compilation of your professional experience in reverse chronological format

·         Education: Details of the schools and colleges you went to

·         Certifications (if any)

·         Additional Information (if any)

3.    Perfect your resume summary. That’s where the gold lies:

It goes without exaggeration that your resume summary needs to be perfected at all costs. This is your ticket to tell the recruiter how you can add value in their organization.

Your resume is an overview of your skills & capabilities. It is a compilation of your work experience and a written testament of your professional expertise. This is your best shot at capturing the recruiter’s attention and admiration. You can do this by communicating the relevant power points of your career.

By cleverly manipulating this section, you can easily reach your professional destination.

4. Quantifying your Contributions in your Professional Experience section

Assuming you’re targeting a manufacturing role, it’s safe to say that all the applicants applying for this profile would have the same profile (more or less). How will the recruiter decide which one to go for?

Two words. Quantifiable impact. Provide approximate figures wherever possible to showcase the depth of your contributions. This is how you’ll be able to differentiate your profile from the rest.

You can provide ballpark figures in case you don’t have the actual data but doing this will go a long way in justifying your profile before the recruiter.

5. Customizing your resume instead of sending a generic resume everywhere

Since manufacturing is a dynamic role, no two profiles would be alike. If you’re sending a generic resume for all manufacturing job listings, it’s a recipe for disaster. Merely spending 10 minutes customizing your resume for key job applications will really help in increasing your chances of getting shortlisted.

Try to organically include keywords from the JD into your resume without making it look like your resume has been ‘stuffed’. Only retain those keywords which you can justify in interviews and remove everything else. Tailoring your resume to specific job listings instead of sending a generic resume everywhere will significantly boost your chances of getting shortlisted.

Conclusion:

The 5 points that we have mentioned above are more than enough to advance your job application in the manufacturing sector. Follow our expert tips to revolutionize your job hunt.
